What a DA PA checker actually measures

A DA PA checker measures how much ranking authority a website has earned, as two scores on a 1–100 scale. Domain Authority (DA) covers a whole domain, while Page Authority (PA) covers a single URL.

Both are predictions, not facts. Moz models them from the number and quality of referring domains and backlinks, so they move slowly and are best read as tiers rather than exact numbers.

How to read your DAPA score

Read your DAPA score as a position on a logarithmic scale. Moving from 20 to 30 is ordinary link-building work; moving from 70 to 80 takes years, which is why comparing two sites in the same range tells you more than any single number.

Domain Rating (DR) is the same idea on Ahrefs' own scale, so a site can sit at DR 40 and DA 25 without either being wrong. Spam Score runs the other way: a high score flags risk, so lower is better.

• Under 20: new or small sites, or domains with very few earned links.
• 20–40: established sites with a real, working backlink profile.
• 40–60: strong competitors in most commercial niches.
• Over 60: major publishers and brands you will rarely outrank on authority alone.

"Good" depends on the job. For vetting a guest-post or backlink prospect, DA 20+ with a low Spam Score is a reasonable floor. For your own site, a good score is simply higher than your direct competitors', so check theirs here before you set a target.

How to vet a website with a DAPA checker

To vet a site for a guest post or backlink, read its authority and its risk together, not DA alone. A quick checklist using one DAPA Checker result:

• DA and DR agree. A big gap between Moz DA and Ahrefs DR can point to an unusual or manipulated link profile.
• Spam Score is low. A DA 45 site with a high Spam Score is usually a worse link than a clean DA 25 site.
• The site is live and on HTTPS. Dead or insecure sites rarely pass value.
• It isn't blocklisted. A listing on a DNS spam blocklist is a red flag whatever the DA.
• Domain age fits the authority. A months-old domain with very high DA deserves a closer look.

Use a bulk DA PA checker when you need to compare many sites at once, such as an outreach list or a batch of expired domains. Checking one domain answers a question; checking a hundred answers a decision.

Domain investors use DA, PA, DR and Spam Score together to price an acquisition, since a domain with inflated DA but a high Spam Score is usually overpriced. Bloggers and affiliate marketers use it the same way before agreeing to a partnership.

Does Domain Authority affect SEO?

Not directly. DA and DR are third-party metrics from Moz and Ahrefs, and Google does not use them as ranking factors. What they correlate with is real: a stronger, more diverse backlink profile tends to rank better, and DA/DR are fast proxies for it.
